Obituary of Rita C. King
HAMDEN - Rita Catherine King, age 93, of Hamden, formerly of Cheshire, passed away on August 31, 2015.
A daughter of the late Thomas Michael and Catherine O’Connell King of New Haven, she was born on August 27, 1922, attended St. Rose of Lima School and graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven. She worked in the accounting field, retiring as Assistant to the Controller of Irving Michaels Co./Michael’s Jewelers. Rita was very active in her church and community, and belonged to Quota International of N.H., Irish History Round Table, League of Women Voters, served as Treasurer of the Cheshire Interfaith Affordable Housing Association, tutored at St. Rose of Lima School and delivered groceries with FISH in inner city New Haven. She loved to travel and favorite trips included Japan and seeing the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany.
Rita is survived by her brother, Timothy King (Patricia) of Cheshire, formerly of Hamden and her sister-in-law Frances King of Glastonbury, formerly of Guilford. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jack Roberts, brother Thomas, and by her long-time companion Robert Kaiser. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; Kathleen (David) Burlingame of FL, John (Dierdre) Roberts of CA, Elizabeth (Walter) Tanski of NY, Marjorie Roberts of WI, Rita Ellen Roberts of AZ, Ann King (Thomas Richardson) of MA, Thomas M. King of MA, Amy King (Ivan) Ramos of Glastonbury, Alice King of NYC, Timothy King (Ellen Hoverkamp), of West Haven, Cathleen King (Paul Catalano) of Hamden, David (Patricia) King of Hebron and James King of CT. She also leaves grandnieces and nephews Hattie, Todd, Rebecca, Cara, Kate, Emily, Carl, Nadine, Thomas, Ivan, Gabriela, Jaclyn, Sarah, and Adam, and several great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Benchmark Senior Living of Hamden for their care of Rita over the past 18 months.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 8, 2015, 10:45 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home to Church of the Epiphany for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the procession leaves for church.
