Obituary of Doris Clark

SOUTHBURY- Doris Post Clark, a resident of Pomperaug Woods, was born Doris Beatrice Swanson on September 19, 1917, in Waterbury to William and Clara Swanson. The daughter of Swedish-American parents, she early determined to excel in English and while in grade school won an elocution prize for public speaking. She graduated from Crosby High School where she participated in drama performances and played the banjo in an all-girl band. She and her sister Ruby were extremely proud of their father, an entrepreneur who started a successful grocery business in the midst of the Great Depression. During the Second World War, she moved several times with her then husband to different naval installations and later, when he was posted to the Pacific Theater, worked in the defense industry. After divorce and employment at Waterbury’s American Brass Company, she married Donald J. Post,Sr, a deacon in the Watertown Congregational Church and the Provost (later the President) of Post Junior College. She contributed considerable amounts of time to her church, to the College’s activities and to civic groups in the Waterbury/Watertown area, especially to the YWCA and to Mr. Post’s efforts on behalf of the YMCA. After Mr.Post's death, she married Francis Clark, the founder and President of Lighting Services of Waterbury, and together they spent many years in retirement between Heritage Village in Southbury and Tequesta, Florida, enjoying the seasons, their friends and family, and their love of golf. She is survived by her son Bryan (Kim) Blanchard, a retired university president and his wife Maureen, a city councilor in Gardiner, Maine and their mischievous golden retriever Piper, by the families of her niece Nancy Salcito and her nephew Bruce Meier, by her daughter-in-law Janice Post and her son Stephen Post and her daughter Cindy Stone and their families, by the family of her stepson Reginald Post, by her stepsons Richard and Terry Clark and their families, by her daughter-in-law Nancy Clark and her son Cooper, and by her close friend Marcea Morgan, her maid of honor at her marriage to Mr. Post.
