Hello David Jr. and family. I have been at my home on Cape Cod, where you
and your Dad spent your vacation a number of years ago; thus, I missed your
phone call. Tried your Dad's number hoping someone would answer but it
just rang and rang. Your Dad was such a wonderful man, and I should like
to extend to you and all the family my deepest sympathies.
I knew both your Mom and Dad for so many years and think of the absolutely
fun times we had. Parties at Shirley and Rays, our annual Super Bowl
get-to-gathers, the Army and Navy games and so much more. I so hope
this reaches you. Remember that Walter was in touch with you and always
showed me pictures of your daughters and then I believe a picture of your
grandchild. I believe that your Dad still had his dog -- could Curtis possibly
have taken it. Would love to hear back from you. The tragic death of Walter and now your Dad is the end of the line for the U Bus gang, which, of course, included
my late husband Phil. Am very sad. Cindy

I served with Capt. Eaton on the USS Canopus from 1966-67. My wife and I visited with Capt. during the reunion in Charleston in 2010 and in Baltimore 2013. We had very enjoyable visits of his recollections during his service time. In Baltimore he was so excited about his upcoming trip to Spain to see his new great-grandson.
Our thoughts are with you during this time of grief. Quentin and Rosemary Pfutzenreuter

I served aboard USS Canopus (AS-34) ten years after Captain Eaton had commanded the ship. As a fellow Canopus sailor, I send my deepest condolences to the Eaton family.

Dave was a great and good man, whom. along with Ruth Ann, Susan and I were proud and fortunate to know and call friend. Dave and I worked together in state government for a number of good years -- Dave as head of the Ethics Commission and I as his counterpart for Freedom of Information. Both of us had backgrounds in legal aid and the military, although Dave's was much longer and much more distinguished. Dave was always a "straight shooter," smart, direct and knowledgeable. I learned much from him, and perhaps I helped him out a bit now and then.As professional and business-like as he was, Dave also had a great sense of humor and we shared many a good laugh together. Susan and I will always remember him and Ruth Ann fondly and I will continue to be guided by Dave's humanitarian and noble spirit.

I was his driver/orderly in 66 and 67 prior to going to Vietnam. Capt. Eaton was top shelf, one of the most sincere men that I ever met or served with. I spoke with him several times recently.
My sincere condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace
