John was a great guy. I remember him from my days on the Rugby team. Although my time spent on the team was short, I will always remember the small amount of time I spent with John. He was a leader, a role model, and truly a man of his convictions. I'll surely miss John.

John lived an extraordinary life. He had the sharpest wit, best stories, and the most unforgettable laugh. I hope to one day have the same effect on others, as he had on me. I'm privileged to have been able to grow up alongside John. Although he isn't here in person, his spirit and legacy will live on forever. God Bless John Peter O'Reilly and the great family who raised him.

To the family of John O'Reilly, I met your loved one John only once. He and my son (Keith Owens) went to the State Police Academy Youth Week back in 2012(?). They became friends in those 6 days. I met John on "graduation" night, because my own son wanted me to meet him. I remember John shaking my hand, saying he was glad to meet me, and that he and my son were, as he put it, "Irish brethren", and he did so with an Irish accent. That made me laugh. He told me that I had a terrific son, and I can only return the sentiment to John's own parents here. My son is currently stationed out in KS with the Army, and he is the one who told me of John's passing, and was very saddened that he wasn't able to come home to say goodbye to his friend. I have to admit, it made me very sad to hear the news that John was gone. Even though I only met this young man once, I could tell what sort of person he was, and I am so very sorry for your loss. My son told me he was hoping that John would run for president someday, because he surely would have had his vote. It's amazing how some people make such an impression on us that we never forget them. John was without a doubt, one of those people, and it only took me about 60 seconds to see he was a gifted young man. I remember that night he delivered his essay to the crowd, an honor bestowed upon him by the instructors of the youth week, as his was deemed by them to be the best of all the cadets. After hearing it, it was no wonder they chose John's essay. May your memories of John bring you comfort during this difficult time. As I said, I only met John once, but I will never forget that meeting, and what am impression he made on me in those few minutes. I am so very truly sorry for your loss and wish you peace in the days ahead. I know John touched so many lives in such a positive way and he will be missed by many. As my son said to me last week, "the world needs more people like him". Godspeed - may he rest in peace. Brenda Shead

We are so very saddened to hear of John's passing. He was an amazing young man with such a caring heart. He clearly loved his family, friends and his country. He gave so much of himself and to all that were blessed to call him their friend. We have no doubt that he is resting safely in our Lord's arms.
