God bless Ev and all the wonderful memories she and her husband Tel made with my parents, and the positive impact she and Tel had on my childhood and life.

Ev Nest (left) with another friend. Ev is holding me in my parent's apartment at 34 Hillside Avenue in Waterbury, CT, early 1957. Ev and her husband Tel lived in that same apartment building, a beautiful old Victorian house.

Ev Nest (left) with my mother Ev Durgy, probably in Waterbury around 1960. They were great friends and played bridge along with the husbands (Tel & Les, respectively) regularly for many, many years.

I regrettably lost track of Ev many years ago and wished I had known she was so close by all these years. She and her husband Tel were pretty much best friends to my parents, Evi & Les Durgy back when they lived for a few short years in Waterbury when I was born in the late 50's. When I was just a toddler we moved to Danbury but my parents remained fast friends and there were regular visits between them to share some laughs and drinks, and most always an evening of playing bridge. My earliest memories are of our visits to the grand old Victorian apartment building where the Nests still lived for some years after my parents moved away. Ev indeed kept a meticulous and very fashionably attractive home. I enjoyed watching TV in their bedroom while the adults engaged in their usual bickering and joking over cards. I remember they had a French poodle named Bobo that was essentially their child and was treated royally. Later they would move to their own home in Cheshire which maintained that same "Ev Nest" look, a very pleasant place to visit. Ev and Tel were both always incredibly nice to me. Tel always presented that sort of Lockhorns front, rolling his eyes at Ev and dismissing much of the female viewpoints as hopeless. They would often appear on different sides of the smallest of subjects, but they were an endearing couple to me behind it all. They knew each other perfectly and I will never forget either of them. They never had children of their own so I trust she had some family to look after her in these recent years. I regret that I wasn't there to offer some comfort but hope that she and Tel are now reunited, and perhaps sitting around a card table with my parents once again. My father laughing with gusto, Tel shooting barbs rapid fire, and the two Evs firing back with glee. Those bridge nights, Schaefer and cocktails (Fresca or ginger ale for me), were truly wonderful. That's how I remember Ev Nest. Wonderfully. May God bless her.
