I AM PROUD TO HAVE KNOWN JOHN FOR SO MANY YEARS, AS A FELLOW CLASSMATE OF HIS AT GEORGETOWN MEDIICAL SCHOOL SINCE OUR FRESHMAN YEAR , 1952! JOHN WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS A HAPPY CAREFREE SOUL WHO NEVER WAS LOST TO TELL A NEW JOKE TO ANY WHO WOULD LISTEN IN OUR YEARS FOLLOWING GRADUATION, JOHN WAS A CLASSMATE WHO WOULD NEVER MISS A CLASS REUNION AND IN DOING SO, ASSURE THOSE WHO ATTENDED WOULD BE MADE ALL THE MORE JOYFUL AND HAPPY AT HIS CONTRIBUTION OF MORE JOKES AND GOOD FRIENDSHIP IN RECENT YEARS, WE KEPT IN FAIRLY CONTINUAL COMMUNICATION AND THE ONE OUTSTANDING QUALITY THAT CONTINUED TO INSPIRE AND AT THE SAME HUMBLE ME, WAS HIS CONTANT ACCEPTANCE OF ANY DIFFICUILTIES THAT HE HAD TO FACE WITH ABSOLUTE CHARITY AND GRACIOUS RESIGNATION WITHOUT ANY COMPLAINT WHATSOEVER. WHEN HE SHARED THE DIFFICULT PROGNOSIS OF HIS RECENT ILLNESS WITH ME, AND I REGISTERED MY SORRY, HE QUICKLY STOPPED ME AND SAID : "FRANK, I CANNOT COMPLAIN, BECAUSE I HAVE HAD A VERY GOOD LIFE"!! I THANK HIM FOR HIS MODEL OF BEAUTIFUL ACCEPTANCE IN THOSE "THINGS WE CNNOT CHANGE" ....I HAVE ASKED MOTHER TERESA WHO IS TO CANONIZED ON SEPT 4TH, TO INTERVENE FOR HIM FOR A RAPID ENTRANCE TO THE BEATIFIC VISION TO JOIN HIS LOVED ONES IN HEAVEN HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY PRAYERS.

I was teaching 6th grade at Laurel Ledge School in Beacon Falls around 1969. Dr. Elser was the town's health officer and came to talk to the sixth graders. One thing he told the kids has stuck in my mind ever since, "Don't listen to your teachers when they tell you to stay out of the puddles or you'll catch a cold. Remember getting your feet wet doesn't lead to catching a cold." Sorry for your loss.
