Obituary of Elise Murphy
Wallingford - Elsie Millican Murphy “100”, formerly of Cheshire, has resided at Skyview Center in Wallingford for the past 4 years under the loving and devoted care of the entire staff with her granddaughter Charlene Wright as her primary care nurse.
Elsie was born on March 24, 1916 in Ansonia, a daughter of the late John George and Isabel (McGregor) Millican. She is predeceased by her husband Herbert Murphy, her daughters, Ruth Nycek and Janet Peckingham, her son Bennett Peckingham II, and stepson Curtis Murphy. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Donald Peckingham, granddaughter Gina Thomas, great grandson Isaiah Eason and brothers, John, George, David and William Millican.
She is survived by her sister, Ethel Flagge, daughters Sharon Winters (Malcolm) and Nancy Iannucci, stepdaughter Maureen Bouteller (Daniel), son, James Strong (Janet) and stepson David Murphy (Joy). She will also be missed by 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Elsie was educated in Ansonia schools. An accomplished poet, Elsie had many publications and public readings throughout her life. She had a passion for the outdoors and hiked well into her 90’s. She loved dance, music, laughter, “family”, friends and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. She lived and walked her life in “faith”, being a source of strength, encouragement and joy to all.
Arrangements- Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., at First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, 941 Old Rock Hill Road,
Wallingford. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire, is in charge of arrangements.
