Obituary of Hilton Roth
MERIDEN - Hilton "Hilly" A. Roth, 84, passed away Thursday August 16, 2012 with his family at his side. He was the husband of Dorothy P. Roth.
Mr. Roth was born October 26, 1927 in Hartford the son of the late Andrew and Katharine (Hill) Roth. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy where he obtained the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class. He was a graduate of Trinity College receiving a B.S. in 1952 and a M.S. in 1954. He was a Research Scientist at U.T.C. in East Hartford for over 35 years, where he had two patents. He was also an active member at Cheshire Lutheran Church where he served as President; taught Sunday school; mentored confirmands; singing in the choir for over 50 years as well as being a trustee of the church's building committee.
Mr. Roth taught Respiratory Chemistry at Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. He was very active in his community serving as a member of the Cheshire High School Booster Club and coaching Little League. He was Scout Master for Cheshire Boy Scout Troop 91. He was member of the "Friends of the Cheshire Library" where he served as President and was a substitute for several years at Cheshire High School.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Mr. Roth is survived by his sons Robert and his wife Faith of Cheshire, Stephen and his wife Karen of Oregon; his daughters Pamela Salvestrini and her husband John of Waterbury and Marcia Zanko and her husband Bryant of Michigan; his brother Raymond of Williamsport, PA his sister Lillian Barnes of Bristol; his six grandchildren Michael, Rachel, Daniel, Katharyn, Christopher, and Kimberly. He is predeceased by his brother John.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Monday August 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Cheshire Lutheran Church 660 West Main St. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Lutheran Church Organ Restoration Fund, 660 West Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410.
