It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Professor Gupta. I wish to extend my condolences to his family. I had the great honor of being one of his students at Purdue Calumet for two Physics classes. He not only made the subject interesting, but understandable. I still remember how he would get very excited when he was coming to the conclusion of a subject. He is the only reason I ever understood Einstein's work. I remember finishing one early morning class and he asked us if anyone had heard the great news. The only thing I could think of that would interest Dr. Gupta was the Nobel prize being awarded to a Professor at the University of Chicago, for physics of course. He acted surprised and very pleased that we knew about, and that it gone to a native of India.

I have many fond memories of Uncle that I will always cherish. His smile is one such memory. He always seemed happy and in good spirits around friends.His joking personality is another fond memory. Uncle found ways to gently tease in order to get those around him to smile. His humility is another pleasant memory. Uncle was a very accomplished person, but he never boasted about what he had done.
