I am deeply saddened having heard of Johns passing only 2 days ago. My condolences to all of his family and loved ones. John will forever hold a special place in my heart. 16 years ago, he walked onto my used car lot on Fairfield Ave in Black Rock and we have been friends ever since. He bought a Volvo wagon that day and shared his passion for animals, especially dogs. The next day I found an abused pit bull running the streets of BPT and let her in my car to help her. I didn't know what to do! I called John and he gently, kindly and generously guided me for months on how to care for that dog whom I named Angel. She was a previous bait dog who could not be socialized. John was incredibly encouraging and offered much helpful advice when I was about to give up on her. Because of John, Angel became my best friend for 14 years. I saw John often at Earth Animal and also in the rooms. I treasured his passion for animal justice. I also understood his struggles and tried to cheer him on. I moved to Fla last year and returned north 4 times since and each time made a visit to see him at Earth Animal. The last time was only a few weeks ago. I am so glad I stopped to see his sweet self. May his soul and spirit be in peace. The heavens and all the animals there have inherited a real gem. My prayers for all of his family to find peace

John, Marc and I were so saddened to hear of your passing. You were an amazing friend to both of us, and of course, to Nikki and Mackenzie. Words cannot express how much we will miss your kindness, generosity and willingness to help whenever you were needed. I will always remember how you comforted me during my father's illness, my mother's illness and when we had to make the decision to put Nikki down. John was my cousin growing up and our families spent many weekends and ski trips together during our childhood years. The laughs we had and his energy and incredible sense of humor are what I will remember most. The hilarious times that Carolyn and I shared with Sarah and John in various motel rooms in VT and NH while the adults were convened in someone else's room for apres ski, are some of my fondest memories as a kid. I had the good fortune to run into John by chance a few years ago and learned of his incredible talent for working with animals and passion for dogs. His outgoing nature and zest for life were evident as ever and I could not have been more impressed. I am extremely saddened by John's far too early death, and my heart goes out to Uncle Ray, Susan, Aunt Judy, and Cousin Sarah. Love, Geoff

I am so very sad about John's passing. I was a very dear friend of John's. John was instrumental in helping me start my own dog walking/boarding business. 7 years ago. The last 2 months John and I spent every single evening together. He fought so so hard and gave it his all to stay sober. I'm very familiar with addiction as I lived with an addict for 15 years. John loved being at my home, he thanked me for making him feel safe. We had our little routine down. Phone call at 6 am. Possible lunch around 1 after John's noon meeting, then definitely 6:45 every evening on my bsvk patio after his evening meetings. We chatted for hours, we laughed , we cried and we hugged and each evening as John left ( most times at 2 am, we'd lose track of time) he thanked me for keeping him alive another day. I just want John's family to know that I promise you he tried so so hard. To stay sober. As we know with addiction, it' most times is much bigger than we can fight.
