Obituary of Walter A. DeAndrade

CHESHIRE – Attorney Walter A. DeAndrade, 92 surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 29, 2016 at Masonicare Hospice in Wallingford, Connecticut. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte (Satchell) DeAndrade for 40 years. Mr. DeAndrade was born September 24, 1924 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of the late Anthony and Sadie (Ryder) DeAndrade. Mr. DeAndrade attended Northeastern University and later graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1947. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War where he served his country as a Lieutenant. He served on the battleship U.S.S. Mississippi, which earned eight battle stars in the Pacific. He also served on the dock landing ship U.S.S. Colonial in Pearl Harbor, the submarine U.S.S. Queenfish in the Pacific, and the Gearing-Class destroyer U.S.S. Harold J. Ellison in the Mediterranean. After serving his country and resigning from his Naval career, Mr. DeAndrade attended Yale University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate Law Degree in 1957. He was the third attorney to open an office in Cheshire and practiced law there for 58 years. He was also a New Haven Magistrate. Mr. DeAndrade was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Wallingford, Connecticut. Mr. DeAndrade was devoted to his wife Charlotte of forty years and was a loving father, grandfather and faithful friend to all who knew him. He was selfless and his generosity was unmeasurable. He will be fondly remembered for his dry wit and great sense of humor. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed boating, traveling, spending time with his family and friends, often telling old war stories. He was a former member of the Farms Country Club and in his youth a proud supporter of the Cheshire Jaycees. Besides his wife Charlotte, Mr. DeAndrade is survived by his three sons, Jack DeAndrade (Miwako) of Travelers Rest, SC, Stephen Conway (Kathleen) of Northwood, NH, and Thomas Conway (Cecilia) of Miami, FL; three daughters, Kim DeAndrade (Cathy) of Medford, MA, Lori Conway-Jacobs (Mark) of Cheshire and Renee DeAndrade Stavish (Edward) of Port St. Lucie, FL; his sister, Lois DeAndrade Rinna of Medford OR, and sister-in-law, Beatrice Satchell Goodwin (Bobby) of Northwood, NH.
