Obituary of Silvio Damato
¬CHESHIRE – Silvio Damato, 96, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was the husband of 66 years to the late Phyllis (Massimino) Damato, who passed away in 2012.
Mr. Damato was a 1938 graduate of Hillhouse High School and was a longtime resident of East Haven, Woodbridge, and Cheshire. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, serving as a Sergeant and engineer for the Air Corps in World War II from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Damato completed 28 missions, all missions deemed successful except for the 13th when the B-24 he was flying in was shot down over Hungary. He received numerous commendations for his service, including the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
He worked for many years as a Lithographer for City Printing and ran his own company VanWay Web Co. in New Britain. As a Lithographer, he was a proud member and past president of the CT Litho Club. He enjoyed golfing and was a former member of both Racebrook Country Club as well as Quail Run Country Club in Naples, FL. He was also a NY Giants, Yankees and Yale Football fan.
A dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Damato is survived by sons Dennis and wife Robin, and Gary and wife Linda, both of Cheshire; his grandchildren Tyler and Jamie Damato, and Leslie Silva and her husband Steve; and his great grandchildren RJ and MacKenzie.
Arrangements – Calling hours will be held on Friday November 4, 2016, 9 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. until 11 a.m. when the funeral procession will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Becket Church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
