Obituary of Richard Howard
WATERBURY - Richard F. Howard, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 26, 2012 at the Cheshire House in Waterbury after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Doris (Friske) Howard.
Mr. Howard was born August 7, 1924 in Leominster, MA, the son of the late George H. and Catherine (Glasheen) Howard. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, in England during WWII. For efficiency displayed in the strategic air depots machine shop where he helped manufacture parts for battle damaged bombers, he was awarded an Army Air Force Technician Badge.
He got his start as a tool and die maker at Cote and Lambert Tool Co. in Leominster, MA. He had been self employed in manufacturing for many years before retiring at 82 years old.
Besides his wife of 65 years, Mr. Howard is survived by his two daughters Jane Daly and her husband Jim of Newington and Liz Nowotenski of Meriden; his four grandchildren Lisa Thomas and her husband John, Mike Miller, Karen Faulkner and her husband Monty, as well Christopher Daly; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Spinney and his son Richard F Howard Jr.
The Howard family would like to thank the staff of VITAS as well the Cheshire House for their kindness and support throughout Mr. Howard's illness.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mulville Funeral Home, 270 West Main St., Waterbury. A Graveside service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the State Veteran's Cemetery, Bow Lane in Middletown. There are no calling hours.
