Obituary of Robert E. Breton

NAUGATUCK - Robert E. Breton, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. He was the husband of Rita J. (Livernois) Breton. Born in Augusta, ME, August 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Emil and Irene (Bouchard) Breton. He married Rita J. (Livernois) Breton 66 years ago on November 23, 1950. Mr. Breton was a longtime Naugatuck resident and served his country in the U.S. Army as an interpreter during WWII. A communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as financial secretary. He worked for Uniroyal Chemical for over 38 years before retiring in 1988. During his time at Uniroyal, he was presented with the 1986 Flagship Award. He was a former coach and Commissioner of the Naugatuck Junior Football League as well as a former member of the borough’s V.F.W. Besides his wife Rita of 66 years, Robert is survived by his son Edmond Breton and wife Ann formerly of Oxford; and his daughters Doris Mannweiler of Waterbury, and Linda Salvatore and husband Gary of Cheshire. He also leaves 3 grandchildren, Raymond Breton, Dana Judd and her husband Ben, and Laura Kusen, her husband John and great-granddaughter Aurelia. He also leaves his sister Jeannette Chase of Gardiner, Maine and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert Breton Jr. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Friends will be received at the Alderson-Ford Funeral home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. 9 a.m. until the funeral procession leaves the funeral home to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial with Military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery.
