Lord knows why but for as long as I can remember we only referred to him as "Cousin Jim"As my sister Joanne put it he was a favorite in our family. My mother adored him! I also remember fondly our trip for Betseys baptism as well as several Thanks givings that my parents spent together with him. He was sooo warm. Always called us "darling" I also have very fond memories of his mom, to us Aunt Mary. She was warm and funny! Our mom always said Jims Dad was an outstanding person. We of course never had the pleasure of knowing him. "Cousin Jim" will be missed terribly by my family. The only solace I can find is that I hope and pray my parents were there to greet him and will spend another happy Thanksgiving together.

He was our "Cousin Jim" too. In fact he was my mother's first, and only, first cousin. That is why Gloria --my mom--and cousin Jim were very close. Their mother's were both widowed young and had apartments across from one another on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn. Mom used to tell stories about when her baby cousin was born she was very excited--both my mother and cousin Jim were only children and they were life-long close and spoke on the phone often these last few years. She said that he was the most beautiful baby she had ever seen--like the Gerber baby--maybe she was being partial, I don't know--we do have his baby picture somewhere and he was a round headeded and smiling in the picture. My mother was Betsy McMahon's godmother and I remember going to the baptism and the party afterward. My sister's, myself and our husbands all liked Cousin Jim very much. He was chill, likeable and funny. My father regarded him as his cousin and like a brother. Also of note was that Cousin Jim walked my mother down the aisle at her wedding, as I said neither had a living dad and there is a lovely picture of Cousin Jim walking my mother down the aisle. And that is how it was and ever will be and those memories with sustain us while we are left to carry on his memory.

Love will get you through this difficult time. This is when you realize the gifts of life. Each of us was given the gift of knowing your Dad. Each will have a special memory that we hold dear. Mine was at Katie's wedding when he told me I was "being unfair to him, he already had four beautiful daughters and didn't need another" Thats how he will be remembered by me, that is my special memory. I hope each of you girls have one very special moment of your Dad that will help to heal the sorrow of the day. He lives on in your memory. Love you all! Cheryl
