Obituary of Joseph P. McCarthy

Cheshire-Joseph P. McCarthy (Joe Mac), 79, formerly of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in New Haven on February 13, 1938, son of the late Michael McCarthy and Bernice Buccetti, stepson of the late Joseph Buccetti. He was pre-deceased by 10 brothers and sisters. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Gizzi) McCarthy. He is also survived by his son, Joseph McCarthy Jr, his wife, Diana, and his daughter, Karen Proto, her husband David, all of Cheshire, and his sisters, Fay Natale and Joann Buccetti. He will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren, David, Anna, and Sarah Proto, and Joseph and Victoria McCarthy. Joe was a 1956 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School. He worked for many years as an accountant at Armstrong Rubber Company (Pirelli Tire). Later in life, he worked for SCSU. Joe was a dedicated volunteer for Hamden Father’s Baseball and Basketball Association as well as St Stephen’s School, coaching well over 1,000 youths in his lifetime. Joe was also a longtime member of Knights of Columbus. He was always the life of the party and truly enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. Joe especially loved going to watch his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid Yankee’s fan, loved to travel and work in the yard with his pets. Arrangements – Funeral services for Mr. McCarthy will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave, North Haven. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
