Obituary of Lois B. Waggoner
CHESHIRE – Lois Breyer Waggoner, 91, died peacefully at her home on May 31, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Born on January 18, 1926, in New Haven, CT, she was the daughter of Leland and Ethel (Robinson) Breyer. Lois attended Hamden High School, graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and received her Master of Science Degree from Southern Connecticut State College in 1965.
While attending the University of Connecticut, Lois was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and a concert violist for the University of Connecticut Orchestra. She met her future husband, Charlie, while he was in the U.S. Army and attending specialized training at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Upon Charlie's honorable discharge from the Army, Charlie and Lois were married at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Cheshire on July 12, 1947 and were blessed with 64 years of marriage before his death in 2011.
In 1950, WagLee Farm began operation under the direction of Charlie and Lois’ father, Leland Breyer, and Lois worked hard on the farm while raising four children. After the farm ceased operations in 1960, Lois returned to college to obtain her Master’s Degree and was a substitute and full-time teacher in the Cheshire Public Schools for over 20 years, spending most of her time as a first-grade teacher at Doolittle School.
Lois was active in many community activities. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for over 70 years where she was a member of the Choir, Altar Guild and taught Sunday school. Lois also was the Chairperson of the Cheshire Food Drive for several years. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Sleeping Giant Women’s Golf League for many years, as well as the Women’s Golf League at Monterey Yacht & Country Club in Stuart Florida where she spent winters until recently.
Lois is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Carolyn (Furtak) Waggoner of Cheshire, a daughter and son-in law, Pam Waggoner and David Nastasia of Georgetown, MA, a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bill Eaton of Palm City, FL, and a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lee and Bob Petrus, of Mansfield , CT, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her loving caregivers, Ewa Sokolowska -Yourse and Nina Rozdoboudko.
Arrangements - A memorial service will be held on June 24 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, Connecticut at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter’s Church Memorial Fund, 59 Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
