Obituary of Bessie Hupp

SOUTHINGTON- Bessie Leona (Hopkins) Hupp, 93, of Southington, CT passed gently to her lord from this world on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. Bessie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, GettusHubert (Bud) Huppin 2005. She was born on Jan. 9, 1919 in, Lowell, Ohio, the daughter of the late Miram and Willia Hopkins of Fleming,Ohio Bessie lived most of her married life in Marietta, Ohio, moving to Cheshire and then Southington, CT. Bessie was a graduate of Barlow (Ohio) High School Class of 1937. She attended Lemar Riggs Beauty School. Following World War II she moved to Marietta sp her husband could attend Marietta College on the GI Bill. Bessie was employed at the People's News, Bonham's Department Store and later the Lafayette Hotel. She was a member of the Sixth and Washington Street Church of Christ in Marietta and attended the Whitney Avenue Church of Christ in North Haven Ct. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, worked summer programs for Park and Recreation and was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Bessie and her husband attended Cincinnati Reds baseball games every summer, professional golf tournaments in Akron, Ohio and Barbershop Chorus competitions. She so enjoyed her husband's Riverbend Chorus performances that she was instrumental in organizing a Sweet Adeline's Chapter in Marietta. This group sang for President Reagan on his visit to Ohio. Bessie is survived by her loving daughter Patricia Patrick and her daughter's husband George Patrick, whom she called son, and her cherished grandsons, Bradford Allen Patrick of Tampa, Florida and Mark Andrew Patrick of St. Louis, MO and their dear wives, Elizabeth Letsch and Jennifer Buehler, great-grandchildren Ethan Buehler Patrick (her soccer kid), Clastel Marietta Patrick and Aurelia Pearl Patrick, her sweethearts, and baby lagan Lucius Patrick, named for her grandfather Lucius McCurdy, a Civil War Veteran. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by brother Everett Hopkins, and sisters Ora Stine and Elizabeth Blake. Bessie was a dear, warm, caring woman who will be remembered by her many friends, fellow Christians, and family members for her love, faith and loyalty, her ready smile and sweet singing voice. 'The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Summit at Plantsville, CT for their tender care and attention to Bessie's needs and gratitude always to the band of angels who came to her home on assignments and became dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday Oct. 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Burial will be in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Wallingford Rd. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday Oct. 7, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association - South Central Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
