Obituary of Michael Peter DiRocco, Sr.
Michael Peter DiRocco, Sr., age 70, of Cheshire entered into rest on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving wife, Kathy by his side. Michael was born on February 26, 1947 in New York City, son of the late Michael and Lucille (Schwerdt) DiRocco. He was the devoted husband of Kathleen (Stroell) DiRocco, with whom he would be celebrating 30 years of marriage next month.
Mike was raised in a very “affectionate” Italian family from The Bronx. He served his country with honor and pride during his service, to include three tours of duty in Vietnam with the US Navy Seabees and Navy SEALs. After his service, Mike worked as a Civil Engineer for many years and relocated his infectious smile and his “gift of gab” from New York to Cheshire, where he made friends instantly and found his dream home for his family. He loved tending to his home and having room for all of his friends and family to come and stay when they could. Mike would help people any way possible, and in some cases in an effort to guide them in the right direction. He was a cat lover and keen on boating and motorcycles.
He is the beloved father of Kimberly Welch of Port Hueneme, CA, Michael P. DiRocco, Jr., of Owasso, OK and Nicholas DiRocco and his wife, Teresa of Broken Arrow, OK. Mike is survived by his cherished grandchildren; Megan Powell, Michael P. DiRocco, III, Zachary DiRocco, Tyler Denny, Leighanna Pollack, Brandeen Pollack, Emmaliey DiRocco, Nicholas “Anthony” DiRocco, Jr., and Timothy Holman; his loving great grandchildren; Olivia Lindholm and Grayson Fletcher. He also leaves his sisters; Diane Hill of Cheshire and Lynn Hungerford and her husband, Ed of Round Top, NY; his brother-in-law, Joseph Stroell and many nieces and nephews.
