Obituary of Charles N. Hicks

NEW MILFORD - Charles Nelson Hicks, 67, of New Milford passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at his home.  He was the husband of Deborah Freeman.

Charles was born September 26, 1949 in Stuart, VA, the son of the late Henry Nelson and Lucille (London) Hicks.  He was raised in Virginia, where he attended Patrick Central School, and graduated from Stuart High School.  Charles gave his life to Christ at the First Christian Church of Stuart, VA. He later moved to New York - then to CT in the late 1980s.  He worked for many years for IBM until his retirement in 2004.  Upon his retirement, Charles umpired and refereed youth sports throughout the state of CT. He was also a volunteer for the Special Olympics of Connecticut, and an avid BMX cyclist with his son.

Besides his wife, Debbie, Charles is survived by his son Rory Nelson Hicks and his wife Michelle Tamarez-Hicks of Dumont, NJ;  his granddaughters Mikaela & McKenzie; his sisters Joan Hicks Boddie of Charlotte, NC and Melva Hicks of Atlanta, GA; his brothers Wilbert Hicks (Peola)  of Naugatuck and James Hicks (Cynthia) of Charlotte, NC and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements for Charles will be on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the United Methodist Church of Naugatuck, 208 Meadow St.  Viewing will be at the church from 2 to 2:45 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00PM. The family will receive guests during the repass, immediately after the funeral in the downstairs level of the church, Fellowship Hall.   Burial will be in New Milford Center Cemetery, New Milford at the convenience of the family.  The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of CT, 2666 State Street, Suite 1, Hamden, CT 06517.
