we miss Donald dearly. There is a huge void for all of us here at The Village as Donald was our daily morning greeter. He would be reading his paper at the entrance, dressed sharply wishing all a good day. May he be resting in peace.

My deepest condolences to Don's family.
Don Zehnder was a wonderful man and an excellent lawyer. I had the honour of being a law clerk for him during the summer of 1972. He showed me every kindness and was always happy to explain what he was doing and was never impatient. He let me attend court with him and even visit with clients. It was a great learning experience.
But, most of all, I still remember how he would let me drive his Lincoln Continental when I had to run errands for him. That was a gesture that I have never forgotten and it speaks so much about Don's generosity and character.

Truly this is the passing of an era. What a wonderful man and great attorney. It may be said of him that he left this world a better place for his having been it. I trust that he will be reunited with his loved ones. My condolences to those he left

Dear Shawn, Gail & Terry,
Reading your father's obituary at least a dozen times has been wonderful, joyous tearful and hearty. My earliest memories of "DZ" date back to c. 1974-5 when, at age 6-7, I only knew him as a "funnest uncle"; and how our parents just loved each other so much! In my "boyhood years" from around 8-14, I remember how exciting it was whenever I saw his magnificent blue Lincoln coming up our driveway, knowing I was in for exciting stories of epic courtroom battles and epic adventures... His brilliant mind, resounding voice, fabulous wit and wickedly contagious laughter so endeared me to him in those years... From when I was around 14-22, I can recall more about the extent of our parents' joyful times together, but also how he so easily dispensed fatherly advice to me with wit and understanding-- My love and admiration for him matured as I did in those years. As a young man in my 20's, with far more opportunity than motivation, he had no trouble telling me exactly what I should do with my life and no reservations about putting a little shame on me-- Perhaps he knew that I never resented his advice; or maybe he just didn't care; but either way, he cared for me enough to let me have it in the times in my life when I needed it. As a young lawyer in my 30's, I discovered so much more of him that only a fellow lawyer can really see: His titanic devotion to our Rules of Conduct and the principles of ethics, justice and fairness were the North Star of his professional life. He guided my own father, and of course Zeke, in these ways; but countless others too. He profoundly affected my personal and professional life.... Aquariums, fine landscaping, Republicans, Highballs, Cufflinks, modern homes, Lincolns, Elephants, Superbowls, Rotary Clubs, and so many other things conjure up my fond memories of him. He will always be with me and I loved him very much.

Gail, Shawn, and Terry, my brother, Ben sent your dad's obituary to me. I am so sorry. It is hard to lose a parent no matter how old they are, or how old we are. Your dad was a remarkable man, and the world will be a poorer place without him. Incidentally, it is a wonderful obituary! It captured your dad's spirit, and the type of life he led to a T. Well done!
with love,
Laura Dibble Peterson

It was a pleasure knowing Don over many years. As Director of Nuring at Glendale Center, I can attest to his love and dedication to Mary. It was difficult for him to relinquish her care ,as a Husband, but he knew when he no longer was able to both spouse and caregiver. Everyday he visited and weekly took her out for supper or to get her hair done. Truly he loved her.
Also had several opportunities to care for Don during his many stays at Glendale. He was quite the man. How he loved his daily newspaper...and showers. It was hard to see him decline but he always had a funny story to tell about getting old.
His positive attitude and love of his family made him a very special person.
Thank you all for giving me these great memories and God be with you all. As we have moved to Myrtle Beach , enjoying retirement, I will not be able to see you all in person. My love to you all.
