I remember taking the city bus with gram, her and gramp dancing in their living room, going to huskies games or just getting pumped up for the games, "did you see the girls?! They were GREAT!!! Weee--oooo!". Watching the red sox together, her forcing her will on the poor opponents, "strike! Drop it!..." playing setback, getting manicures and doing lunch together, spending time together. I am forever grateful of all these times and the thousands more that I had with my grandmother! "I told you gramp I'd look after her!" i am so lucky to had known them as i did! Miss them both!

There is so much to say about Grandma Lucy, I don't know where to begin.
First let me say that she was one of the toughest women I knew. She was small in stature but Huge in SPIRIT, STRENGTH and COURAGE! She taught us (her 5 grandchildren and 2 sons) so many lessons throughout our lives.
She taught us to STAND UP FOR OURSELVES and SPEAK UP; how to SEARCH FOR A BARGAIN and TO ALWAYS WATCH THE REGISTER TO BE SURE THEY DONT "JIP YOU." She always told us, "WHEN THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY!" and I practice that to this day. She was full of Piss and Vinegar but she had a HEART OF GOLD!!
She loved playing cards, playing and calling BINGO, playing the numbers, and when I was little she took me to the OTB to bet on the horses! She loved to win but she was a gracious loser.
She loved to sing and dance and when my grandfather was alive, they danced often! She also enjoyed being the center of attention! She sang Happy Birthday to each of us EVERY BIRTHDAY and had a great voice! She had the memory of a steel trap...right up til she was 92!
She taught us all The IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY, VISITING, CALLING REGULARLY and ALWAYS STAYING IN TOUCH!!
She was a feisty little Italian from Brooklyn who was very proud of her Italian roots. Her father was a tailor and taught her how to sew. She loved the Boston Red Sox and never missed a game...She hated the Yankees (sorry Yankee fans). One day I saw her walk to the TV and put "the horns" on the pitcher of the Yankees while playing the Red Sox...I thought she was joking but my father told me she "always does that" and she truly believed she helped the Red Sox win many a game!!
She loved to cook and bake and did so into her late 80's. She loved to talk on the phone and keep in touch with all those she loved. She always prayed to St. Anthony and the many other Saints...she was an Italian Catholic through and through. She loved all her nieces but she had a special bond with her niece Marie Giusti, who she talked to every day!
Grandma told me for years that every morning before she got out of bed, she did bicycle exercises with her legs...maybe that's why she was still able to walk at 92. And, she prayed for every one of her family members every night before bed. She was truly an inspiration!
We miss you already Grandma; you were such a huge part of who we are! And every one of us has a little Lucy in us!
Thank you, Gram, for your STRENGTH, your WISDOM, YOUR LITTLE SAYINGS, your ability to LISTEN and KEEP OUR SECRETS, your LOVE and GUIDANCE but above all THANK YOU FOR THE BRASS BALLS YOU INSTALLED IN ALL OF US!!!!
You were and are ONE HELL OF A WOMAN and we were TRULY BLESSED to have you in our lives! WE LOVE YOU WITH ALL OUR HEARTS AND SOULS and YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED YOU! With much love, gratitude and sadness, "your one and only Barbra Jean"

In the 40 odd years I knew Lucy I could count on one hand the times I saw her cry. When I married Lucy's oldest son, I moved in with them. Lucy was happy to have another woman in the house and she showed me her collection of dolls that she loved. When I had my daughter, Lucy cried and thanked me for giving her "her baby doll". A few years later Lucy went in for a lumpectomy and ended up having a radical mastectomy. All the muscles from her chest and under her arm had been removed. When she woke up from the surgery she was heavily bandaged and asked what they did to her. When she was informed that they had to remove her breast, she never shed a tear. Two days later when her doctor walked in Lucy was curling her hair, and her doctor's mouth dropped open. She said "Lucy what are you doing"? Lucy replied, "doing my hair". It wasn't until years later that I understood that women who had the procedure Lucy did, would receive intensive physical therapy to help them use their arm. That was a tribute to the strength and determination of this little woman with overcame so much with courage and dignity.

Gramma-thank you for enriching all our lives with living so long as to bless us as many as 45 good years with you, building memories and storing them for the days after you\'ve gone to join Grampa, and your brothers and sisters, who went on before you! Thank you for giving us a strong woman to learn from, for giving us the fibers of strength and courage with which you faced life. The strength of a bull in a little cute as a button package! There will never be anyone quite like you gram! We love you and will miss you deeply.
