Obituary of Angela Flamer
NAUGATUCK - Angela (Desaulniers) Flamer, 71, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 in Watertown. Angela was the loving wife of Joseph Flamer, Sr.
Angela was born on May 8, 1946 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Homer and Antoinette (Manna) Desaulniers. Her family moved to Naugatuck after the flood of 1955. Like almost all other Naugatuck residents at the time, Angela spent time working at Risdon Mfg. and Peter and Paul Candy, before retiring from Waterbury Hospital after 38 years. For those who were lucky enough to know her, Angela was a very giving person who would do anything for anyone. After retirement, Angela filled her time with volunteer work. She volunteered with Mrs. Langdon’s first grade class at Hop Brook Elementary School, at St. Anthony’s Church in Prospect, at Naugatuck High School and Friends of the Library and countless other acts of kindness for anyone who needed a helping hand. She was very involved with the Naugatuck Emblem Club for the past 32 years where she did various charity work to help support local veterans and children. Angela held many offices in the Naugatuck Emblem Club including President. Her passion was being Americanism Chairman and obtaining the history of the American Flag.
In the early 1990s, Angela was instrumental in transforming Prospect Street School’s library to a classroom due to massive overcrowding and much needed classroom space. Almost 10 years later when room became available for a much need library, Angela was there once again. She committed to helping the Prospect Street Parent Assoc. transform the space into a beautiful full-functioning library. She went on to pioneer a program with the Howard Whittemore Library, where a book is donated on behalf of the Emblem Club to honor every club President, past and present.
Based on her immeasurable dedication to the children in the Naugatuck area, Angela was awarded The Raymond K. Foley Award, in 2009, which is presented by the Naugatuck Parent School Council, and honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service and unselfish dedication contributing to the betterment of Naugatuck children. In her free time, Angela loved to spend time in her garden. She loved gardening so much, she would also volunteer to weed the gardens of friends and family.
Angela is survived by her husband, Joseph Flamer, Sr.; her son, Joseph (Andi) Flamer, Jr.; her daughter, Tina (Geoffrey) Carofino; her brother, Arthur (Linda) Desaulniers; her sister, Annette (Peter) Balog; her nephew, Robert Hughes; her niece, Ashley Hughes and numerous other relatives.
