Obituary of Gladys Dahlberg

Gladys Evelyn Dahlberg of Cheshire, Connecticut passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017 at Elim Park Baptist Home at the age of 92.

Gladys was born in West Haven, CT to Albert and Anna Johnson on January 7, 1925. She graduated from Hamden High School. In 1946, she married her husband, Herbert and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Gladys loved working as an office assistant for AAIM in Hamden, before moving to Torrington, CT in 1972.

Gladys had many talents, she loved her Scandinavian heritage and traveled several times to Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, where she was able to visit relatives. She also enjoyed baking cookies and making her infamous Swedish coffee bread.  Gladys enjoyed music. She played piano, horn and accordion and sang in the soprano and alto sections of the Connecticut Yankee Chorale, the Litchfield County Choral Union, the American Union of Swedish Singers and even sang and played in the choir and bell choir at Elim Park for several years. Gladys enjoyed all kinds of crafts, particularly knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She loved decorating her home for the Christmas holiday. During the summer months when her children were young, Gladys and Herb would enjoy camping in their trailer at Hammonassett State Park, but when she and her husband moved to Torrington, you would find Gladys in her beautiful gardens, especially with her day lilies. She and her husband Herb enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite trips were to Poland and Hungary, the Cross-Country trip, and many other vacations to Florida, Georgia, and Ohio.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Lisa Proffitt and husband, Mark from Southington, CT, and Laurie Fulton and her husband, Steve from Douglasville, Georgia, her grandsons, Andrew and Katie Fulton of Villa Rica, Georgia and Zachary and Katie Fulton from Del Rio, Texas, 4 great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Betty Dahlberg along with  several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Herb, her brothers, Bramwell and his wife Mary Johnson, Paul and his wife Josephine Johnson and brother-in-laws George and his wife Lillian Dahlberg and Arthur Dahlberg.
