Obituary of Louise J. Leavenworth

WATERBURY - Louise J. Leavenworth, 90, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at her home. 

 

Miss Leavenworth was born May 21, 1927 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Howard Wesley and Ethyl (Aitchison) Leavenworth.  She attended local schools graduating from Crosby High School Class of 1945 and furthered her education at Colby College and Boston University School of Social Work.  For many years Ms. Leavenwoth was employed by Village for Families & Children retiring in 1993.  She was active with the CT Council for Adoption and the Waterbury Woman’s Club.

 

She was an active member of Mill Plain Union Church where she served as the church historian; on the outreach committee and the Pastor's church committee.  She was the first female board member of the church.  She enjoyed the performing arts and was an avid reader frequently expressed her love of books.  She was known for her concern for others and putting others before herself.

 

Miss Leavenworth is survived by her brother Howard W. Leavenworth, Jr. of Portland, OR; her nephew William and his family; her niece, Laura Young; her nephews, David, Philip and Peter Leavenworth; her great nephew Steven; her great niece Michelle (Leavenworth) Madak; her great grandniece Dana Pietrusko.  Besides her parents she is predeceased by her step mother Dorothy E. Leavenworth; her brother George A. Leavenworth; as well as her niece Elise Leavenworth.

 

Arrangements - The funeral will be held12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury.  Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at the church from 10:30 am until the start of the service.  The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury is assisting with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Mill Plain Union Church c/o the Leavenworth Fund, 242 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury, CT 06705 or to the Village for Families and Children, 1680 Albany Ave., Hartford, CT 06105.
