Obituary of Richard P. McHugh
CHESHIRE – Richard “Dick” “Mac” P. McHugh, 88, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Elim Park in Cheshire. He was the husband of Margaret “Gig” (Barrett) McHugh.
Mr. McHugh was born June 18, 1929 in New York, the son of the late David and Marguerite (Potter) McHugh. He was raised in New York and graduated from Manhattan College in 1951. He served his country in the U.S. Army and worked in New York until 1971 when he joined the former New Haven Water Company, now known as the Regional Water Authority. He was the Water Company’s Chief Engineer until 1974 when he was promoted to Vice President before assuming the role of Executive Director in 1981.
Mr. McHugh was a communicant of St. Bridget Church. He loved golf and was an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan.
Besides his wife of 62 years, Mr. McHugh is survived by his children Marguerite Gelber and her husband Les of West Palm Beach, FL; Patricia Pastel and her husband Ken of Sudbury, MA and Richard McHugh and his wife Rhonda of Orlando, FL; and his six grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Rita Tiffin.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, 9:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., to St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 - 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.
