Obituary of Phyliss Mattiace Sigetti

Charlotte, NC - Phyliss Mattiace Sigetti, 64, entered into peaceful rest January 26, 2018, ending a long courageous battle with cancer at the Levine Dickinson Cancer House in Charlotte, NC, an area she had grown to love since moving there eight years ago.

A native of Naugatuck, Phyliss was born May 13, 1953, daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Mattiace) Sigetti.  Her early education was conducted locally and culminated in her graduation from Naugatuck High School in 1971.  After her graduation Phyliss acquired her Practical Nursing License through studies at Waterbury Hospital.  Phyliss then burst onto the world, leaving home at a young age to pursue the three passions that guided her the rest of her life; travel, education and service to others.

Phyliss would eventually serve as a Peace Corp volunteer in Liberia, Africa; earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Eastern Connecticut State University; become a United Nations volunteer serving in Papua New Guinea; earn her Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Hawaii; and ultimately visited and worked in many places throughout Europe and the United States that most people can only dream or read about.

Phyliss will be missed by countless friends, far and wide, for her constant good nature and good deeds.

Phyliss is survived by her husband of 25 years, Gukkho Chung; her step-daughter Brandy Douglas; her siblings Maryann Reilly (W. Burke), Christine D’Amato, Michael Sigetti (Deborah), Teresa Sigetti, and Daniel Sigetti (Lisa); numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck.  Friends are asked to meet directly at church.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery and there are no calling hours.  The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
