Obituary of William Brandt

William Brandt

“The Man Behind the Lens”

CHESHIRE - William “Bill” Brandt, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his home in Cheshire surrounded by his family.  He was devoted to his family as a beloved husband to Janet (Korner) Brandt, father and grandfather, a devout Roman Catholic, and a Cheshire resident since 1966.

Mr. Brandt was born February 5, 1938 in Queens, NY, the son of the late Gabriel and Elizabeth (Kneuer) Brandt.  Besides his wife Janet, Bill is survived by his sister, Catherine (Brandt) Koch of Inman, SC, his 5 children; Randolph Brandt (Paula) of Winchester, NH, Thomas Brandt (Cathy) of Southington, Theresa Vallely (Sean) of Erin, NY,  Bonnie Hendrickson (Steven) of Wolcott and Heidi Weed (Michael) of Cheshire; 12 grandchildren (Megan, Joshua, Quinn, Timothy, Daisy, Gabrielle, Matthew, Josef, Megan, Samantha, Brandt and Eli), sister-in-law Jean (Madden) Korner, and several nieces and nephews.  He will be dearly missed by his family.

His career began as a toolmaker apprentice at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford.  In the early 70’s he became President of The Steel Rule Die Corporation in Cheshire.  From there his career continued as a Manufacturing Engineer at several CT businesses.  Bill took great pleasure in photography as a hobby as well as semi-professionally.  He specialized in freelance photography for weddings, events, Cheshire Community Theater and for several years covered local events for the Cheshire Herald.

The Brandt family would like to offer special thanks to their “Angel” Susan and the Hospice nurses for all of their compassion and care.
