Obituary of John A. Williams
CANTON - John A. (Jack) Williams, 86, formerly of Cheshire, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Lamb) Williams.
Jack was born April 30, 1931 in Waterbury, the son of the late Charles A. and Anne (Connelly) Williams. He was a lifelong resident of Cheshire. He lived a life dedicated to service. Jack served as an Army Ranger and Paratrooper during the Korean War. In his civilian life, he was a life member of the Cheshire Fire Department, serving as Chief from 1966-1974. He was a member of the CT Fire Chiefs Association, the New England Fire Chiefs Association, the International Fire Chiefs Association and a founding member of the Waterbury Area Fire Chiefs Association. In addition to his service, Jack was a longtime employee of the Ball and Socket Manufacturing Company in Cheshire serving as Plant Manager.
In his personal life, Jack loved spending time with family and friends. Jack enjoyed hosting pool parties and maintaining an immaculate lawn. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, and the UConn Women's Basketball team. Jack could also be found rain or shine cheering on his children and grandchildren at their various sporting events. In recent years, he enjoyed his frequent visits to Dunkin Donuts and Mikado.
Jack is survived by his daughter Karen Smyth and her husband Glen of Canton; his son Steven Williams of FL; as well as his grandchildren Nicholas, Patricia, Connor, Hunter and Samantha; and his sister Elizabeth Oten of WA. In addition to his parents and wife Patricia, Mr. Williams was predeceased by his son Jack.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 10am at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr. Friends are asked to meet at the church. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday April 6, 2018 from 5-7pm at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St Cheshire, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department Inc., 250 Maple Ave., Cheshire, CT 06410. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
