Obituary of Jean I. Watson

FORESTVILLE - Jean I. Watson, 69, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Touchpoints at Farmington.  Jean was born May 2, 1949 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Edwin F. and Jean (Wiatr) Watson. 

 

Jean was raised in Cheshire graduating from Cheshire High School in 1967.  She furthered her education obtaining her Bachelors in Child Development from UCONN in 1971 and her Master’s in Education from St. Joseph’s in 1985.  Throughout her years in Cheshire she was active with the Cheshire Fife and Drum Corps as well as many years with the CT Patriots Fife and Drum Corps after her move to Forestville.  She won many medals and trophies for playing the fife.  Jean enjoyed her positions at various pre-schools and early learning centers where she taught. She was the Director of the Plainville Daycare Center for over 20 years.

 

Jean had many talents. Her knitting was amazing and she sold children’s sweaters on Etsy, some with sailboats or flowers knitted right into them, and she would often make hat and mitten sets for family and her students.  She was an accomplished cake decorator and even made wedding cakes and special occasion cakes for family and friends.  She also loved gardening and always kept a vegetable garden at her home in Cheshire as well as Forestville.

 

Jean was a big fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team and enjoyed following their success over the years. She loved vacationing on Cape Cod.

 

She is survived by her sisters Laureen Mastroianni of Cheshire and Joan W. Williams of Chester, CT; as well as 6 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, Jean is predeceased by her brother Donald R. Watson and her beloved cocker spaniel, Taffy.

 

Arrangements - The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St..  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 am until the start of the service.
