Obituary of Merton Everett Brown

NAUGATUCK- Merton “Mert” Everett Brown, 98, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian (Carlson) Brown in 1984 after 38 years of marriage.

Mert was born August 26, 1919 in Waterbury son of the late Merton Edwin and Olive (Fesch) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of Leavenworth High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving in World War II, where he received a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, and a Victory Medal.

He was in Sales for 45 years at Anaconda American Brass prior to his retirement.  Mert was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 42 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Waterbury, Lafayette Consistory 32nd degree Valley of Bridgeport, and Grace Lutheran Church of Naugatuck. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, reading, traveling, and above all spending time with his family.

Merton is survived by his two daughters Sharon Barnes of Naugatuck, and Linda Sody of Torrington; three grandchildren Traci Barnes, Michelle Hubbel, Tara Sody; four great-grandchildren Jamie and Barbara Skinner, Ashley Ardry, and Samantha Hubbel; one great-great grandchild Jonathon Matthews; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was predeceased by his three sisters Evelyn Davis, June Brown, and Shirley Gillis; and his two sons in law Lee Barnes, and Steve Sody.

Arrangements- A service for Mr. Brown will be held 11 A.M, Thursday May 10, 2018, at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St, 06770. A calling hour will be held from 10 A.M until the service begins at 11 A.M. Burial with full military honors will follow in Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to the Harold Leever Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, 06708.
