Obituary of Dennis Sherlock Carruth

CHESHIRE- Dennis Sherlock Carruth, 75, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018 at Masonicare Health Center after a courageous five year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Barbara E. (Chaiter) Carruth whom he was married to for 29 years.

 

Mr. Carruth was born on May 1, 1943 in New Haven son of the late Sherlock L. and Madeline (Feustel) Carruth. He grew up and attended schools in North Haven, where he enjoyed participating in sports, and forming lasting friendships that continued throughout his life. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He attended and graduated from Quinnipiac University where he received his Associates Degree. Dennis had a long career in Banking prior to his retirement.

 

Dennis had a passion for sports, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Rangers, and the UCONN Huskies basketball teams. Among his other interests were gardening and traveling. Two of his favorite destinations were Maine and Las Vegas.

 

Besides his wife Mr. Carruth is survived by his children Melissa and Michael Carruth; grandchildren Jordan and Ethan; a sister Marylyn Smith; sister-in-laws Jill and her husband Michael Gallina, and Elizabeth Deerson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

 

Arrangements- A Memorial Service for Dennis will be held 11 A.M, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410. A calling hour will be held from 10 A.M until the Memorial Service begins at 11 A.M. A private burial will take place in the State Veterans Cemetery.
