Obituary of Margaret M. Kelly

Torrington - Margaret Mary (DeVito) Kelly passed away in the comfort of her family on July 25, 2018. Margaret was predeceased by John A. Kelly Jr., her husband of 70 years.

Margaret was born in Waterbury on October 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Roper) DeVito. She was a 54 year resident of Cheshire. Margaret graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, St. Mary’s School of Nursing, and the University of Georgia with a BSN. She served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Navy Nurse. She was a private duty nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. Her favorite pastimes were cheering on the UCONN Lady Huskies basketball team, playing cards at family gatherings, and spending time with her loved ones.

She is survived by her children, Mary Toller (Bill) of Springfield, MA; Patricia Porch (Newell) of Torrington with whom she resided; and John A. Kelly III (Linda) of Cheshire. Margaret is also leaving behind her seven loving grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of the Church of the Epiphany, Cheshire.

Arrangements: Friends may greet her family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, on Monday, July 30, 2018, from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 A.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. at The Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Road, Cheshire. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Road, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 810, Memphis, TN 38101.
