Obituary of Charlotte Anne MacGregor

Charlotte Anne (Schendel) MacGregor, age 97, of Oro Valley, AZ and formerly Cheshire, CT entered into rest on July 16, 2018 at Brookdale Oro Valley in Arizona and was a former resident at Vistoso Village.  She was the devoted wife of the late Merton MacGregor for over 44 years.  Charlotte was born on March 10, 1921 in Brownsville, TX, daughter of the late Oscar G. and Anna (Foley) Schendel.

Charlotte was a warm-hearted person with a vibrant smile who was passionate about helping others.  After graduating high school and attending junior college in Brownsville, Charlotte worked for the US Navy in Washington, D.C. to support the war effort. Later she returned to Brownsville, joined Pan Am as a Link pilot trainer where she met her husband, Merton, a fellow Pan Am employee and they were married in 1944.  Returning to Merton's home state they started their family in Norwalk, CT and eventually moved to Cheshire in 1961, where Charlotte was a resident for 45 years.  While in CT, Charlotte earned her bachelor’s degree in History and Master’s in Special Education from SCSU and worked for the Cheshire and Prospect Public School Systems. Being the “lifelong learner” she was, Charlotte attended law classes at UCONN and was an intern at the Capitol in Hartford under Gov. John G. Rowland.  She was also involved in Girl Scouts, the Lions Club and was an avid golfer.

She is the beloved mother of Anne Tivin and her husband, Paul of North Kingston, RI and Richard MacGregor of Oro Valley, AZ.  She is survived by her cherished grandchildren; David Tivin and his wife, Hannah of NY, Katherine McCoy and her husband, Justin of Narragansett, RI, and Jacob Tivin of RI; her sister, Margaret Ames of Brownsville, TX and several loving nieces and nephews.  Charlotte was predeceased by her siblings, Richard Schendel and Elizabeth Haluza.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11AM in the Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Road, Cheshire, CT 06410.  Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Road, Cheshire.  The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting her family with the arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cheshire Academy, 10 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410.  To leave online condolences or to share a story of Charlotte, please visit www.fordfh.com
