Obituary of Janice D. Miner

Cheshire—Janice Damery Miner, 92, passed away at her home in Elim Park on December 9th in the presence of her loving family.

Janice was born April 26, 1926 in Watertown, Connecticut, the daughter of the late James H. and Ethel (Fox) Damery.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Connecticut College for Women in 1947, graduating summa cum laude and serving as valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she was employed by American Cyanamid in their Stamford, CT research lab, where she met her future husband, Frank. They married in 1949, and lived in six different states during the first eight years of their marriage. They finally settled in the northeast and moved to Cheshire in 1968.

Janice led an active life wherever she lived. In Cheshire, she served as the long time Treasurer of Friends of the Library in Cheshire and in the same role for her stock investment club. She was an avid tennis player at various local venues, including the Farms Country Club. She enjoyed coffee klatches with her neighbors wherever she lived. Travel was a love, and she and Frank visited many countries around the world. One particular highlight was a visit to Prague to visit daughter Judith, who was there on a Fulbright Scholarship, shortly before the Velvet Revolution.

In addition to her husband of 69 years, Janice is survived by her three daughters, Constance Miner (Greg Lalley) of Washington, D.C., Judith Miner of Kensington, MD, and Rebecca Wentworth (Greg Wentworth) of Somers, CT. She will be missed by her two grandchildren, Andrew and Emma Lalley of Washington, DC. She was predeceased by her brother, James Damery.

A memorial service will be held at Nelson Hall, Elim Park on Thursday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Janice Miner can be made to Friends of the Cheshire Public Library, 104 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410.
