Obituary of Cecilia Mary Cavanaugh

CHESHIRE - Cecilia (DeVylder) Cavanaugh, 99, passed away, January 1, 2019 at her home in Cheshire surrounded by her children. She was the wife of the late James P. Cavanaugh.

Mrs. Cavanaugh was born August 24, 1919, in Cheshire, a daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Acquette) DeVylder. She was a woman who loved family and had strong faith.  She was a devoted member of St. Bridget Church as well as a member of St. Bridget’s Ladies Guild and the Daughters of Isabella.  In addition, she was a active member of the Cheshire Senior Center.

Mrs. Cavanaugh is survived by her son, James Cavanaugh (Jane) of Cheshire, and her daughters, Cecilia Curran (Joseph) of New Haven, Kathleen Huntley of Cheshire, Patricia Priest (John) of Cheshire, and Mary Dann (Daniel) of Central Square NY. She will also be missed by her 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cavanaugh was predeceased by her brothers; Arthur, Francis, Joseph, Edgar, and Alfred DeVylder and her sisters, Helen Krueger and Agnes Kane.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care for the wonderful care they provided and also want to thank her loving caregivers, Mira, Nora and Umida. A special thank you to Bill and Jane Rastelli for all the support they gave Cecilia.

Arrangements – Friends may greet the family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire CT 06410 on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10AM until 11:15AM.  At 11:15AM her funeral procession will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12PM at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire.  Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Cecilia’s name to a charity of your choice.
