Obituary of David Carroll

WATERBURY - David M. Carroll, age 58, passed away peacefully on Jan 4th 2012, with his family by his side. David was born Aug 14, 1954 in Waterbury the son of Lillian and the late Francis "Tom" Carroll. Growing up in the Fairlawn section of Waterbury, David was a graduate of the Crosby high school Class of 1972. A longtime employee of Connecticut Light and Power, he also ran a very successful business as "The Country Chimney Sweep". David had a knack for handy work and could always be found fixing something around the house. He became especially proficient in plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and tree work. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, as well as being involved with organizations such as the Harwinton Rod and Gun club. On a windy day he always had a kite ready for his kids to play with. David adored the ocean, loved a cold beer in a frosted glass, and was happiest in the company of his family, his abundant amount of friends, and his high school sweetheart. Big Dave never met a stranger, and would give the shirt off his back to help those in need. He was always ready with a smile or a joke, and had a heart like a lion. His presence was enormous, and he was without a doubt the life of the party. David touched lives wherever he went. Besides his mother, David is survived by his daughters, Jillian and Juliette Carroll of Fort Collins CO; his son David F. Carroll of Boston MA; his sister Barbara Conlon of Waterbury; 2 nieces and a nephew, Danielle Bunker Pennington, Patricia Conlon, and Steven Bunker. David is predeceased by his sister Kathleen Bunker. He also leaves behind his surrogate family, Barbara, Coop, Taylor, Logan, and David Walters. The Carroll family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of St.Mary's Hospital and VITAS Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care shown to him and the family during his stay there. Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 8, 2013, 9:45 from the Mulville Funeral Home, 270 West Main St. to St. Leo the great church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 1579 Straits Turnpike, Middlebury, CT 06762.
