Obituary of Natalie Schain
WATERBURY- Mrs. Nataile (Cohen) Schain, 89, formerly of Waterbury, passed away Monday Jan. 21, 2013 at Conn. Hospice in Branford. She was the widow of the late Raphael Schain who passed away in 2004 after 47 years of marriage.
Mrs. Schain was born in New Haven, Aug. 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Solomon and Breina "Bessie" (Selickman) Cohen and had been a Waterbury resident for 63 years, having spent the last two years as a resident of Tower One in New Haven. She was educated in the New Haven school system. Her long career of 55 years involved telephone sales of various magazine publications, where she developed a strong personal friendship with her clients. She was an active member of B'Nai Shalom Synagogue, a member of the Sisterhood of the congregation and was a member of Na'Amat- Pioneer Women for many years. She was an ardent supporter of many charities both here and in Israel and gave of herself overwhelmingly. She was known as a gracious hostess, going out of her way to support her friends and family, as she entertained in her home.
She leaves her loving family, a son, Norman R. Schain of Prospect; one daughter Breina I. Schain of Cheshire; 5 grandchildren, Adrienne, Samuel, Jeremy, Jennifer and Daniel; and one great-grandchild, Emilio. She was predeceased by a son, Eric Schain in 2006 and her siblings, Benjamin, Belle, Frances, Kathryn.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (TODAY) Jan. 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. at B'Nai Shalom Synagogue, 135 Roseland Ave., Waterbury. Burial will be in Waterbury Hebrew Benefit Assoc. Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury. A Shiva Minyan will be observed on Thursday, Jan. 24th, Sunday, Jan 27th, and Monday Jan 28th, at 3:45 pm at B'Nai Shalom Synagogue prior to evening services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to B'Nai Shalom Synagogue, 135 Roseland Ave., Waterbury 06710 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society- Conn. Chapter, 659 Tower Ave. 1st Fl., Hartford, 06112-1269 in her memory, honoring her husband, Raphael Schain.
