Obituary of Ruth Larson

BINGHAMTON, NY- Ruth Eleanor (Melbourne) Larson, 93, passed away peacefully on November 26th at the Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Binghamton, NY. Ruth was the only child of Raymond and Eleanor Melbourne. She was born in Naugatuck, CT on July 10th, 1918. She married Carl Edward Larson on June 12, 1943. They spent 61 years together until his death in January 2005. She then moved to Binghamton, NY in September 2006 to be closer to her daughter's family. After graduating from Naugatuck High School in the class of 1935, Ruth worked as a secretary in the office of Risdon Manufacturing Co. She met her husband "Eddie" there. After several years as a homemaker, she returned to work at the Colonial Bank and Trust in Naugatuck where she eventually became secretary to the president of the bank. She retired in 1984. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Naugatuck. She was well-known for her baked goods at the Lenten bake sales and always worked at the peach cobbler booth at the annual church fair. Ruth was also active in the Women's Club, serving on several committees throughout the years. Ruth and Eddie enjoyed many years of bowling, golfing, winter vacations to tropical islands, and entertaining friends and family. Ruth will be remembered by all who knew her as a "lady" in the truest sense of the word and a person of kindness and grace. Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Gerald Ruestow of Sidney Center, NY and her granddaughter, Julie Ruestow of Toms River, NJ. She is also survived by very special relatives, about whom she never forgot, in the Wallingford, CT area and La Jolla, CA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 11:00 AM at Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, CT., 201 Meadow St. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 210 Church St., Naugatuck, CT or to a charity of one's choice
