Obituary of Lillian Malis
Cheshire-Lillian I. Malis, age 89, entered into rest on Monday, July 1, 2013 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of Charles Malis for 72 years. Lillian was born October 1, 1923 in Pittsfield, MA, daughter of the late Nelson and Velma Henry Barnes.
During WWII, when her husband was stationed in the South Pacific, Lillian was employed with Chance Vought in Stratford where she mounted machine guns on the aircraft. Later, settling down in Cheshire, she was a homemaker, caring for her family as it grew, she was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. An active member of her church, she was a Colonizer at First Congregational Church, and an avid reader who enjoyed baking and made the best apple pies. Lillian vowed never to leave CT during the college basketball season, so not to miss a UCONN girls game. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her husband Charles, she is survived by her loving children Sandy Malis of North Port, FL and Charles "Rich" Malis and his longtime companion Olga Flanders of Meriden. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Donald J. Zegzdryn and his wife Brianna; Jeffrey A. Malis; Keith R. Malis and his wife Marie; Dennis Flanders and his wife Patty; and great-grandchildren Sean and his wife Shannon, Zachary and Matthew Sagendorf; Ashleigh Battle; Benjamin Zegzdryn; Allyssa, Nicholas, Zachary, Matthew, Christopher and Lianna Flanders, and several nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her granddaughter Cheryl Ann Zegzdryn-Sagendorf, and her sister Mavis Massey.
Her funeral procession will leave the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 9:30AM for a Funeral Service at 10AM at First Congregational Church, 111 Church Dr., Cheshire. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 4PM to 8PM.
