Obituary of Carmen Civitello

WALLINGFORD - Carmen Civitello, 99, passed away Saturday August 10, 2013 at Masonicare of Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Gilda (Festa) Civitello. Mr. Civitello was born July 31, 1914 in New Haven, the son of the late Dominic and Antoinette (Porto) Civitello. He moved to Cheshire in 1971 where he was a communicant of St. Bridget Church serving as an usher. He was active in the community serving on the Cheshire pension board for over 22 years as well as serving the community as a constable. He was employed as an Administrator for the Connecticut Bakery and Milk Industry Insurance andf Pension Funds, retiring in 1980. Throughout his life, Mr. Civitello was a member of several civic groups including the Hamden Italian American Club; B.P.O.E. Lodge 1365 in Wallingford; the CT Police Chiefs Assoc.; New Haven County Sheriffs Assoc.; as well as the Unitas Club. He was also secretary of the Teamsters Local 145. Mr. Civitello is survived by his sons Richard and his companion Patty Kannenburg of Ledyard and James of Meriden; his daughter Carol Vece of Wallingford; his brother Dominic of North Haven; nine grandchildren ; sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Civitello is predeceased his son Robert C. Civitello; his brother Sylvester, Pat, Frank, and John; his sister Madeline as well as his son-in-law Robert Vece. Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 14, 2013 10:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:30until the funeral procession leaves for church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bridget Church 175 Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410.
