Obituary of The 18th Century Slave

WATERBURY- Funeral Services for "Fortune", the 18th century slave, who passed away in 1798 will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at 4 p.m.at St. John's Episcopal Church, 17 Church St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Riverside St., Waterbury. "Fortune" will lie in state at the State Capital, 210 Capital Ave., Hartford, on Thursday from 9:30 a.m.to 3:15p.m. Gov. Dannel Malloy will offer remarks at 10 a.m. An Honor Guard will be provided by the Governors Foot Guard. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. is in charge of the arrangements. A reception will follow at the Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main St. Waterbury. Please call the Museum at 203-753-0381, if you are planning on attending the reception.
