Obituary of John Roscoe
CHESHIRE- John Stanley Roscoe, 91, of the Elim Park Retirement Community,Cheshire, passed away Saturday December 28, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Dakota County, Minnesota, October 12, 1922 the eldest son of John Stanley Roscoe Sr. and Gertrude (Smollen) Knapp. He was a WW II, U. S. Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific. Upon his return from the war, John's mother introduced him to Concetta Marie Geraci. They were married for 53 years, until Connie's death in 2000 John and Connie brought their family to Cheshire in 1960. They were communicants of St Bridget's RC Church. Together they founded Connie's Answering Service in 1972.
John was a member of Kiwanis and a charter member of the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce. John earned a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry and worked for Olin in New Haven for many years. He was director of research for Quantum, Inc. of Wallingford and retired as Senior Chemist from the State Health Department. John was an active musician. He received his first trombone at age 16. He played in the army, with the Cheshire Community Band and the Cheshire Symphony Orchestra well into his '80s. He was also a member of the Governor's Foot Guard.
John was blessed to find love and companionship again with his second wife, Geraldine M. (Perzanoski) Roscoe, who survives him. He also is survived by his six children: John N. Roscoe (Kathleen Lynch) of Ithaca NY, James G. Roscoe (Harriet Potts) of Bolton CT, Joseph A. Roscoe (Laura Volk) of Rochester NY, Michael J. Roscoe (Ginny Hole) of South Windsor CT, Geralyn Roscoe (Alice Tragesser) of Burlington VT, and Robert R. Roscoe (Kimberly) of Cheshire CT; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother William Roscoe (Norma), brother Bernard Roscoe (Joan), brother Eugene Roscoe (Tollie) and sister Marguerite DeLuc and sister-in-law Lucy DeFili and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and Connie, John was predeceased by infant twin sons, brother Joseph Roscoe and sister Florence Walsh, sister-in-law Carmella Lucchesi and brother-in-law Pasquale (Nick) Geraci.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday Dec. 31, 2013 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the procession leaves for church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Rd., Cheshire. Following the burial, a gathering and celebration of life at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Rd, Cheshire, 12noon. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to a Charity of your choice.
