Obituary of Armand Brodeur
Mr. Armand A. Brodeur, Jr., 73, of Naugatuck, passed away Monday morning Dec. 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Fisherman) Brodeur.
Armand was born in Waterbury, Mar. 31, 1940, a son of the late Armand A. Brodeur, Sr. and the late Evelyn (Wallis) Brodeur and was a Waterbury resident until 1967, when he moved to Naugatuck. He was educated in the Waterbury school system and was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, and attended Post College. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a Sergeant with the HHC 2nd Bat., 102nd Inf. Serving as Tactical Command Chief for 6 years. He was also a Past Commander of the Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Brodeur was employed as a Metallurgist with Risdon Corp. for over 24 years, and had served as Chairman of the Board and President of Risdon Employees Federal Credit Union. He later became associated with Eyelet Design, Inc. of Waterbury where he worked for 14 years, retiring this year.
He was a past Deputy Chief of the Naugatuck Vol. Fire Dept., and was one of the founding members of the Naugatuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and presently a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Borough of Naugatuck. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of Post 17, American Legion.
Armand was a member of many different Masonic Bodies, serving as a Past Master of Shepherd-Salem Lodge, # 78 A.F. & A.M. ; the Naugatuck Fellowcraft Assoc. both of Naugatuck; The Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Waterbury: serving as Sublime Prince of Doric Lodge of Perfection; Most Wise Master of Ionic Council-Princes of Jerusalem and Trice Potent Master of Corinthian Chapter- Rose Croix. A member of The York Rite Bodies: Cyrus Chapter # 45, Royal Arch Masons of Torrington; Buel Council # 20, Royal & Select Masters of Litchfield and a Sir Knight of New Haven Commandery, No. 2, Knights Templar, and the Triangle Guard Assoc. both of New Haven and The Lafayette Consistory, 32 Degree, Valley of Bridgeport, and a member of the Conn. Council of Deliberation, where he was awarded the Arthur M. Brown Matrious Service Award. He was also a Noble of Sphinx Shriners of Newington; The Garibaldi Masonic Club of Conn.; The Police Square Club of Conn.; a past President of The Naugatuck Shrine Club, where he had chaired the annual Pancake Breakfast for 10 years, raising over $10,000 dollars for the Shrine Hospitals. He was also a member and past President of The Kaaban's Shrine Club of Plymouth; a member and past Director of Dimaryp Court # 66, Royal Order of Jesters; the Nutmeg Billiken Club and a life member of the Kachina Klub of Scottsdale, AZ and the "Q". Members of Shepherd- Salem Lodge created the "Armand Brodeur Community Service Award" in his honor earlier this year.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he leaves his children, Jeffrey Farren and his wife Kerry of Kittery, ME, Mark Farren and his wife Katie of Waterbury, Barbara Santos of Naugatuck, and Lisa Silverglade and her husband Josh of Skillman, N.J.; a sister Evelyn Michaud and her husband John of Cheshire; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Lenny Santos.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded at the church following the Mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday Jan. 3, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. Members of the Veterans Council will meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. and members of Shepherd- Salem Lodge will conduct Grand Funeral Honors at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396 or Shriners Burn Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114-2601
