Obituary of Norman Maconi

CHESHIRE - Norman L. Maconi, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday February 15, 2014, surrounded by his family at his home on NAJONTRY Farm in Cheshire, his home since 1964. He is survived by and is the beloved husband of Beverly D. Maconi for the past 63 years. Besides his wife, Mr. Maconi is survived by his children and their families: Nancy Slocum, and her husband Shaun of Cheshire and their 3 children and four grandchildren, John V. Maconi and his wife Darlene of Wilbraham, MA and their 2 children and Tracy A. Andrews and her husband John of Cheshire and their 2 children. He is also survived by his brother Richard Maconi of FL and sister Lois McClusky of AZ and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Jennifer Kugblenu, a loving caregiver during Norman's illness. Mr. Maconi was born September 16, 1926 in New Haven, the son of the late G. Vincent and Marion (Lawson) Maconi. He attended Cheshire Academy as a child. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy on a Mine Sweeper, receiving the American Theater and Asiatic Pacific Medals. After the war he was in the graduating class of 1950 at Yale University. He had a long manufacturing career serving as Plant Manager at a number of regional manufacturing companies including Ball and Socket, Eyelet Specialty and Risdon Corporation until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Vacuum Metalizing Society where he was a guest speaker. As a parishioner at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Cheshire he served in the position of Junior Warden and also served on the Bell Tower Restoration and Horse Show Committees. In the 1970s he served on the Town of Cheshire Planning and Zoning Board and was involved in Toastmasters. Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church 59 Main St., Cheshire followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Beaverdale Memorial Park. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
