Obituary of Nicholas Casertano
CHESHIRE- Nicholas L. Casertano, 71 passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Inez (Redman) Casertano.
He was born May 28, 1940 in New Haven, son of the late Louis and Julia (DeGennaro) Casertano.
Nicholas graduated with an Associate's Degree from the University of Connecticut, and then later attended Michigan State University where he played football.
From his family's original farm he established the successful business of N. Casertano Greenhouses and Farms Inc. He was a founder of CT Greenhouse Growers Association, a long time member of the Lions Club, and was instrumental in establishing the Cheshire YMCA.
Nicholas was a kind, and generous man who had a profound impact on all who knew him. He will be forever remembered as a strong and loving husband, brother, father, Pampa, and Papa. He enjoyed watching sports, traveling with his wife, and watching his grandchildren's sports and activities. He was deeply attached to his farm and land. Those who worked with him- workers, associates, customers- loved him and will miss him greatly.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, John L. and his wife Jill Casertano of Cheshire, and William N. Casertano and his wife Melissa Batonick of Old Saybrook; two daughters Julie Casertano and her partner Sandy Sawicki of Wethersfield, and Teresa Casertano of Maryland; a sister Phyllis Casertano -Tully of Cheshire; six grandchildren Javier, Alexandria, Samuel, Natalie, Silas, and Mia. Nicholas was predeceased by a brother in law John Tully.
Arrangements- Calling hours for Nicholas will be held Friday December 30, 2011 from 4 to 8 P.M at The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St., 06410. His funeral will be held Saturday December 31, 2011 9 A.M from the funeral home to St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, 06410 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Rd., Cheshire. Donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
