Obituary of James Mitchell
CHESHIRE- James R. Mitchell, Jr., 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday April 8, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Linsley) Mitchell. He was born on September 6, 1943 son of the late James R. and Harriet MacLelland Mitchell.
James and Barbara were married at St. Bridget Church in 1965. He was a devoted father and loved being a pop to his many grandchildren, which completed his circle of life. Though his family was most important to him, James was an active member of The Knights of Columbus, devoted to his rosary as well as the Legion of Mary at St. Bridget Church in Cheshire. In his spare time, Mr. Mitchell enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox baseball games and fishing in the great outdoors. James will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Besides his lovely wife Barbara of 48 years, James leaves two sons; James R. Mitchell III and his wife Donna of Cheshire, and Michael Mitchell of Southington, five daughters; Maureen Shepherd of Michigan, Christine Scott and her husband Jeff of Manchester, Vermont, Jennifer Crose and her husband Sean of Cheshire, Barbara Mitchell and her fiancée Don Negron of Wallingford, and Stephanie Williamson and her husband Ian of Cheshire, his brother; Francis Mitchell and his wife Eleanor of Prospect, a sister; Christina Boccialetti her husband Paul of Waterbury; fourteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mitchell was predeceased by a brother Jack Mitchell and a sister Maryellen Wilf.
Arrangements-Funeral services for James will be Friday, April 11, 2014 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire CT 06410 at 10:15AM to St. Bridget Church 175 Main St. Cheshire for Mass of Christian Burial at 11am and will process to St Bridget Cemetery for burial. Calling hours for James will be Thursday April 10, 2014 from 4PM-8PM. At the request of the family, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St. East Hartford, Ct. 06108.
