Obituary of Sylvia Weisman
WATERBURY- Mrs. Sylvia (Stark) Weisman, 83, of Waterbury, passed away Tuesday morning April 8, 22014 at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of Sherman I. Weisman, who passed away in 2009 after 57 years of marriage.
Mrs. Weisman was born in Far Rockaway, Queens, N.Y., May 4, 1930, a daughter of the late Harry and Rae (Snow) Stark and had lived in Danbury and was educated in the local school system. While a resident of Danbury, she work in the family business founded by her parents, "The New York Bake Shop". Following her marriage to Sherman, she moved to Waterbury where she has resided for the past 62 years. She and Sherman had operated Weisman's Meat Market for many years prior to their retirement. She and her late husband had been involved in many philanthropic activities and were supporters of the Jewish Federation of Northwestern Conn. and many other local and national Jewish organizations. She was a member of B'Nai Shalom Synagogue and a member of the Sisterhood.
She leaves, her sons, Avrahum Weisman and his wife Daniella of Waterbury and Atty Yaakov "Jeffrey" Weisman and his wife Dena of New Haven and one daughter, Shashana Shir and her husband Yosef of Jerusalem; one sister Evelyn Levi of Providence RI and 9 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held (TODAY) Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 12:30 pm at B'Nai Shalom Synagogue, 135 Roseland Ave., Waterbury 06710. Burial will follow in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury, 06705-1640. Shiva will be observed at her late residence, 11 MacArthur Dr., Waterbury on Wednesday following the funeral through Friday afternoon prior to Shabbat and then Saturday evening through Monday morning. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, is assisting the family with all the arrangements.
