Obituary of Joseph Fagan
WEST HARTFORD - Joseph "Joey" Fagan, age 31, passed away after a courageous year and a half-long battle with Lymphoma on Wednesday May 14, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford with his family at his side. He was the husband of Jessica Fryc Fagan. The couple resided in West Hartford.
Joey was born on June 18th, 1982 in New Haven, CT, the son of John and Susan Fagan of Cheshire. He grew up in Cheshire having graduated from Cheshire High School in 2001, where he was an integral member of both the baseball and basketball teams. He furthered his education at University of New Hampshire obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was an application engineer for Henkel Corporation in Rocky Hill. During his three years at Henkel, Joey exceeded all targets; in some cases by more than 200%. He led the team in used equipment sales and in the most lab projects completed on his own. He was a two time softball all-star team member for the company. Everything Joey did, he excelled in.
Besides his wife of nearly four years and his parents, Joey is survived by his two brothers John Fagan and his wife Christine Fagan of Plainville and Shawn Fagan of West Hartford; a niece and a nephew, Emily and Michael Fagan.
Known for his ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, he was loved by so many. He was an avid sports fan and even his favorite teams were unique; Kentucky Wildcats, Cleveland Indians, and Tennessee Titans. He was a Star Wars collector, an activity that he shared with his brother John. He also enjoyed fishing and golf, which were favorite pastimes from his summers spent at his family's home in Cape Cod. He was a certified scuba diver and cherished the dive trips he took to Cozumel, Mexico. He spent much of his time playing NES, watching his endless collection of movies, working on projects around his house, and playing with his beloved cat, Bella, who he proposed to his wife with four years ago.
If you would like to read further about Joey's courageous battle, please refer to the blog that his wife created at www.lovelifelymphoma.wordpress.com. He fought hard up until the very end. He possessed the strength, positivity, and selfless attitude that others admired and looked up to. Even though he was facing such a tough battle of his own, he always made sure that he put other's needs first. His motto was "crush it", something he worked hard to do every day. When he wasn't feeling well, he forged on. When he was feeling down, he pushed forward. When he was unsure of his future, he thought about it positively and with hope in his heart. When asked how he was doing, a negative word never came from his mouth. A few days before he passed away, his doctor came into his room and asked how he was doing and he simply replied with a slight smile and thumbs up, "good". That was Joey up until the very end. After he and his wife spent their honeymoon in Jamaica, Bob Marley's "Everything is gonna be alright!" became a true symbol of his journey.
