Obituary of Robert Irving
Robert C. Irving, age 91, of Cheshire entered into rest on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Elim Park in Cheshire. He was the devoted husband of Margaret L. "Peg" Irving. Robert was born on October 7, 1922 in Gloucester, MA, son of the late Ralph B. and Marion Tarr Irving.
Bob attended Boston University and soon after joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country with honor in WWII, he was assigned to an advanced PT Boat Base in the South Pacific. After the war, Bob returned home and was employed with F.W. Woolworth Company. He retired in 1987 as a manager, but continued with the company part-time for several years. In 1957, Bob and his family settled in Cheshire. They were founding members and active parishioners of St. Thomas Becket Church. His family was his life and he also enjoyed the UCONN Women's Basketball Team and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife Peg of 62 years, Bob is survived by his loving children; Deborah MacDonald and her husband Michael of Guilford, Robert C. Irving, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Marlborough, MA and Richard C. Irving and his wife Rhonda of Coventry, RI; his cherished grandchildren; Michael (Meg Reid) MacDonald, Robert Irving, Kristen (Jon) Mielert, James (Leigh) MacDonald, Craig Irving and Kyle Irving; his adored great-grandchildren; Jane MacDonald and Natalie Mielert; and sister-in-law; Betty Lou Greaney of NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Bob's funeral procession will leave the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 9:15AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM at St. Thomas Becket Church. Interment will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Cheshire. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4PM to 7PM. At the request of his family, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410.
